Knowledge Xpert for DB2 UDB V10.1R2

Knowledge Xpert for DB2 V10.1R2 includes new material on SQL Development in DB2 UDB LUW Version 9.5. Specifically, a new section has been added that details enhancements to DB2's SQL Compatibility Extensions. These extensions are divided into four basic types:

  • Compatible Functions are functions that have different names or syntax than those found in DB2, but produce similar results.
  • Compatible SQL is SQL syntax that uses a different keyword than that found in DB2, but produces similar results.
  • Compatible Data Types are data types found in some databases that are not part of the SQL standard, but can be mapped to data types found within DB2. In some cases, the SQL operators used against these data types may produce results different from that found in DB2.
  • Non-Standard SQL is SQL that does not conform to the SQL standard. There are no equivalent features found within DB2.

In addition, the following basic SQL sections have been updated to reflect changes made in DB2 9.5:

Knowledge Xpert for DB2 UDB V10.1

Knowledge Xpert for DB2 V10.1 includes several updates for DB2 UDB LUW Version 9.5.

Enhanced Knowledge Xpert User Interface

The User Interface has been updated for this version of Knowledge Xpert. Improvements include:

  • Check for Updates - This feature on the Knowledge Xpert Home page allows you to check for and download new Knowledge Xpert content updates. This enables you to keep your content up-to-date between full releases of the product.
  • Favorites - In addition to adding favorites, version 10.1 enhancements enable you to remove, rename, and organize favorites.
  • Comments - This feature reintroduces the ability to add notes and attachments to topics. You can add, edit, or delete comments and share comments with your colleagues through a common directory. Version 10.1 provides an option, at first launch of the product, to migrate any attachments or topic notes from previous versions into comments.
  • History - Instead of having the same topic title display repeatedly in the History list, it displays only once with the most recent access date.
  • Hot Keys - Additional hot keys provide shortcuts that open Knowledge Xpert menus, print pages, and move quickly through the user interface without the need to use a mouse.

Knowledge Xpert for DB2 UDB V2.2

Version 2.2 of Knowledge Xpert for DB2 UDB Linux, UNIX and Windows includes substantial updates to cover changes made for DB2 for LUW version 9.1, including the following areas:

pureXML

The DB2 9 pureXML technology unlocks the latent potential of XML data by providing simple efficient access to it with the same levels of security, integrity, and resiliency taken for granted with relational data, thereby allowing you to seamlessly integrate XML and relational data. Knowledge Xpert for DB2 LUW 2.2 includes a new section of topics on this new technology.

Table Partitioning

In DB2 9, a new table partitioning feature was introduced that effectively increases the potential size of a single table and significantly reduces the maintenance effort required to manage very large databases. Knowledge Xpert for DB2 LUW 2.2 includes a new section of topics on this new functionality.

Data Compression

When creating a table in DB2 9 the user has the option of using two forms of data compression. The first form, value compression, can be useful in environments where much of the data in a table consists of null or zero values. The second form, row compression, compresses data in the row regardless of the default values. Each type of compression can be used alone, or in combination.

Knowledge Xpert for DB2 LUW 2.2 includes information on both Value Compression and Row Compression.

DB2 9 System Catalog Views

Knowledge Xpert for DB2 LUW 2.2 includes detailed information on DB2 9 System Catalog Views.

DB2 provides a robust set of object management tools for DBAs. This release of Knowledge Xpert includes a new section that covers the following tools:

DB2 Automated Maintenance

The maintenance of a database is a time-consuming and seemingly never ending task for any database administrator. As part of the DB2 autonomic computing effort, DB2 Version 8.2 introduced a number of new self-managing capabilities for automatic object maintenance. These are covered in a new section of Knowledge Xpert.

DB2 System Catalog Views

Knowledge Xpert now provides detailed information on the DB2 System Catalog Views (DB2 V8.2).

SQL Development

Structured Query Language (SQL) is a standardized language that is used to work with database objects and the data they contain. Knowledge Xpert for DB2 UDB V2.0 includes a comprehensive new section detailing a variety of SQL development topics including:

SQL PL

The SQL procedural language (SQL PL) consists of SQL control statements that allow the structured query language to be used in a manner similar to writing a program in a programming language like C++ or Java. SQL control statements provide the capability to control the logic flow, declare and set variables, and handle warnings and exceptions. Knowledge Xpert for DB2 UDB V2.0 includes a new section on SQL PL that covers the following topic areas:

Additional information on using SQL PL can be found in the new DB2 Object Management section.

DB2 Object Management
